Transcribing Volunteer

NEIMME holds a huge archival collection of handwritten documents. Most of these have been listed but few have been fully transcribed. Some of these date back to the 1700s and are completely unique so this is an opportunity to help aid original research in the archive. Transcriptions enable more people to access these documents more easily. When each volume is completed we will make a PDF file and put it onto the website.

You can either have a volume which you work through or do pages from a volume being worked on by several volunteers. If you would like to do some work from home then we can provide scanned pages on a USB drive, however you will probably find there are some pages where you need to see the original for the text at the edges of the page. If you have an interest in a particular colliery or area then we can try to accommodate that and find some related material.
