Dr. Robert John Fowell

Dr Robert John Fowell was born in 1944. He received his mining education at the University of Sheffield and undertook PhD studies in mechanical rock excavation in the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He was appointed as a Lecturer in Mining Engineering at Newcastle in 1971 and became Reader in Excavation Engineering in 1984. He later moved to the mining department at Leeds University.

Robert Fowell was Junior President of the North of England Branch of the Institution of Mining Engineers in 1973-74 and NEIMME President in 1984-85.

He served as the Secretary of the Northern Branch of the Council for Engineering Institutions from 1980-84.
